Between September 1994 to November 1995, I was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii, for my final navy sea tour. In anticipation of doing a lot of scuba diving, in December 1994 I purchased a Sea & Sea MMII 35mm camera with an YS-50 strobe. Over the next couple of years, I taught myself the intricacies of underwater photography.

I ended up scuba diving around the Hawaiian Islands every chance possible. I also once got to dive the kelp beds off San Diego. After leaving the Navy in April 1996, I worked part-time for a couple of years at a marine life park in Gulfport, Mississippi near my home as a diver and photographer.

All the images below were taken with FujiFilm 35mm ASA 400. I’ve recently started digitizing all my old 35mm negatives so I can post them on this humble website. Many of these images have been color-corrected and otherwise digitally enhanced. These images include photos from the Hawaiian Islands, San Diego, and the marine life park.

Note: Regrettably, at least half of my underwater 35mm negatives were destroyed when my home flooded during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
