With all the horrors of news these past months, there are times when I need to step back and realize that there are some really cool things happening in our tired old world. One of those really cool things happened this past week.
I’m talking, of course, about Tesla’s Starman and an incredible advancement of our exploration of space.
The video footage was amazing all by itself, but then some artists added music to the video and created something beautiful. I’m linking to two different YouTube videos, both set to the most excellent music of David Bowie.
This one gives me the chills. And the footage of the two boosters making a picture perfect landing back on their pads was right out of a science fiction movie. Only this was real. (Note: jump to the YouTube link, as the author of this video has third-party presenters blocked).
Elon Musk is not only an incredible engineer and business person, but by adding a reference to Douglas Adam’s “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” proved his nerd factor is literally out of this world.
So Elon Musk; thank you for what you’ve done for humanity, and thank you for reminding me there’s still a lot of good things happening in this world. May you have many more successes like this one.
I am a native New Yorker and 22 year Navy veteran. I retired from active duty in 1996 and went on to build a successful post-Navy career in logistics, focused on the shipbuilding and ship-repair industry. I currently work for the US Coast Guard in Washington D.C., and together with my wife Weifang (Winnie) make our home in Northern Virginia. When I'm not on a boat or traveling, I spend my time writing and building websites.
Something Good Happened this Week.
