For the first post of 2024 on this humble blog; I want to wish all my many friends, family, readers, and other supporters a very happy new year of 2024!
Follow me below the fold for some uplifting and entirely appropriate music for this brave new year. Along with the obligatory commentary and musings on the year that was.
All things considered, the year 2023 wasn’t a bad year. At least not in this part of the world, for the northern Virginia branch of the Charest family. We successfully dodged plague and pestilence, stayed relatively prosperous with a good job, and maintained good health for people our age.
Of note is that the past year of 2023 will most likely be the last year I work full-time. I see retirement from my second career coming in 2024. It’s time.
With pending retirement comes my chance for at least a few years of playtime. As much as I’ve accomplished over these past years, there’s a few things I still need to do. Like travel to exotic destinations, take pictures, sample the local foods, then go home. As any good traveler should do. I also have plans to learn how to catch fish and spend more time on the water.
So, I see the year of 2024 as a year for exploring new dreams and continuing my story.
Music For The New Year
Any good New Years Day post has to include a music video. For this year I’m picking a lovely song that speaks to dreams and hopes for the future to come.
“The Neverending Story” was published in Germany in 1979, then released as an English-language edition in 1983. I read this enchanting book shortly after the English-language version was published and loved it. Of course a film was made, loosely based on this book, and released in 1984. I do not feel the movie did justice to the book, much as movies normally don’t. However, the movie did give us a beautiful piece of theme music so it wasn’t a complete loss.
I leave you with a music video of “The Neverending Story” by Limahl.
May your new year be filled with health, happiness, good cheer, and hope.
