Today is the last chance American’s have to vote for our future and our President. Do we want a fascist-lite morally corrupt convicted felon who was sued over 4000 times for not paying his bills? Who went bankrupt four times, each time profiting while his investors lost everything. Banned from running charities in New York after stealing from a children’s cancer fund. Who has credibly been accused of multiple counts of rape and pedopillia. A man showing clear signs of malignant narcissistic personality disorders and age-related dementia?
Or do we want a woman who is an accomplished former prosecuting attorney, former California State Attorney General, former Senator, and current Vice President to one of the most successful Presidents in our generation? Who also happens to be a black lady and daughter of immigrant parents.
Amazingly, according to polls, as of last week one third of our nation’s voters had not yet made up their minds.
How Did We Get Here?
Even more amazing, the polls show that American voters are almost evenly divided over which person would better lead this country.
It’s not like Trump is an unknown personality. He’s a former fucking American President who collapsed our economy during his four-years reign of tError. He praised neo-nazis as “Fine People.” Then he led the worse response to a once-in-one-hundred year pandemic of any industrialized nation and caused an estimated 450,000 excess deaths [1].
Trump failed so badly as President we, the American people, kicked him out of office during his four-year performance review. Then Trump refused to leave and led an autocoup to overturn free and fair election results. That he’s still not in jail for that alone screams volumes about our broken, corrupted system of justice.
Once in a Lifetime
There’s so much more I can write about Trump and this election. But, I’m too sick at heart to write anymore. I can only hope that Vice President Kamala Harris and her sidekick Minnesota Governor Tim Walz become our next set of American leaders. This election is truly a once in a lifetime event.
The impact of this election is not just a different flavor of government officials spending taxpayers money and screwing around with new laws. This election will literally decide if this country remains a free, abet imperfect, Democracy. Or descends into some nightmare system of corrupt fascist plutocracy with overtones of The Handmaidens Tale.
A Little Music For The Day
Given everything going on, I feel a need for some music. I thought about several choices; songs full of hope and joy and promise for a better future. But, none of those really describe my mood. There’s really only one song that adequately describes today.
And so, without further pontificating I present the classic Talking Heads piece “Once in a lifetime.”
May the American people chose wisely today, and the good guys win.
