Exploring China

Looking Down the Great Wall of China, outside Beijing

Some favorite photos taken during three trips to China with Weifang. The first trip was in October 2003, the second trip was in October 2004, and the third was in June 2011.

(Note on metadata: the timestamps for the 2011 photos are 12 hours behind actual photo time, due to not resetting the camera’s clock for China local time.)

During our fourth trip, Winnie and I visited Xi’an and were able to tour the archaeological sites of the Terracotta Warriors. I felt these amazing figures deserved their own gallery in my humble photo collection.

Bonus Image. On our third trip we visited Beijing, including the “Forbidden City,” also known as the Emperor’s Palace until about 1920. One of the sights that particularly fascinated me was the “Nine Dragon” mural made of tile. The entire mural was too long for a single phot so I made nine images, one of each dragon, hand-held using my Nikon D50. It took eleven years to find adequate (free) software that could do justice to a composite of these nine images, but as of October 10 I finally found some. Here is my digital composite of the Nine-Dragon Mural of the Emperor’s Palace, Beijing, China. (This is a clickable thumbnail. Try opening the popup in a new window to enlarge.)
